Welcome to the Urban Art Management Web Site
Featured Project - "hole in the sky"
Location: White Rock, BC
This sculpture evolved from the desire to create a work for this site that would be visually bold and dynamic with a touch of poetry. The intention was for the work to act as a marker, a signifier for the site and place within the broader community. The idea of the rolling wave and the crashing surf, helped determine the image for this sculpture.
Urban Art Management
Urban Art Management is a Vancouver, British Columbia based public art consulting firm.
Leesa Strimbicki, the president, is dedicated to the advancement of public art and it’s ability to encourage a sense of place by creating lively, habitable and creative communities. Her company, Urban Art Management was established in 1995 to fulfill the requirement of providing "public art consulting services" to developers and municipalities.
Public Art, in any media is planned and executed with the specific intention of being sited in the public domain. In this sense, public art can augment the significance of a site by creating places that have significance for people, such as the post office, the corner store and the outdoor market.
Today, public art is exemplified, less by monument-type artwork, and often by integrated art; art which is incorporated into the infrastructure of a site; artwork that may be subtle or obvious, obscure or realistic; artwork which is has implications of site specificity, community involvement and collaboration.
We have enough experience and capability to manage large-scale public art projects. We manage the entire process to bring the project to completion, taking care of the curation, cost management, structural and technical advice and publicity.
In addition, we have the experience to develop public art policy and public art master plans.
